When to use

Add this to articles that need help from other editors because they contain promotional language or material. This tag only applies to articles that are promoting a subject (rather than advertising something).

This template should be used if the problem is described by either, or both, of the following bullet points (from WP:PROMO):

  • checkY Advocacy, propaganda, or recruitment of any kind: commercial, political, scientific, religious, national, sports-related, or otherwise. An article can report objectively about such things, as long as an attempt is made to describe the topic from a neutral point of view.
  • checkY Self-promotion.

This template should not be used in an article if the following bullet point describes the problem ({{Advert}} should be used in this case):

  • ☒N Advertising, marketing or public relations. Information about people, organizations, issues, and products must be written in an objective and unbiased style, free of puffery.

This template adds articles to Category:Articles with a promotional tone.

How to use

  • Place {{Promotional tone|date=November 2024}} at the top of the article.
  • You can adjust the default "article" text with something more specific, such as: {{Promotional tone|article's "Controversy" section}}.
